As one of the worlds largest insurers, Travelers have a rolling programe of video case studies, to provide examples of their renowned customer service. Amongst clients they have assisted are Marussia.
Formula 1 team Marussia used computer aided design to build their race cars. In 2014, their main computer cluster caught fire. The fire didn’t cause too much damage but retardant from the extinguishers did.
Travelers wanted Shoot You to reflect the support they gave Marussia. Marusia needed to keep running, so they were not in breach of the Concord Agreement (unable to provide a car on race day).
Presenting the customer viewpoint would be key. Although several of the people we wanted to interview were abroad racing, or desperately trying to prepare cars for the next race.
Interview scheduling needed to be precise, although there was so much good will from Marussia, we were able to film their CEO and Technical Officer more or less straight off a plane.
Other staff and their working environment would also be filmed, as part of a story chain. A Talking Heads approach, mapped out to demonstrate how Travelers helped take Marusia from disaster back to normality.
We used a two-camera set up for interviews, one on a set of legs and one on a slider. This allows our crew to shoot continuously and be able to cut between shots. Valuable for the crew and for the interviewee, who can concentrate on what they want to say.
Ensuring Marussia staff felt comfortable and able to contribute would make the video. Interviews and other footage could be mixed in the final production, we still needed to focus on capturing the ethos at the first opportunity.
Instead of adding a voiceover to narrate events, the editor allowed interviewees to tell the story of the fire and the recovery. A little careful editing required, although input from Marussia staff had been helpfully coherent.
A selected music track faded in and out to suit the narration and the corporate case study video was ready for delivery to Travelers.
The video went down a storm at the next Travelers conference. This has also been used globally, as a testament to how complex insurance claims can be managed, to keep clients on track.
