Sweetening the pill
The European Union’s EURES initiative aims to facilitate the marketing of jobs across the EU and the movement of people across borders to meet demand for labour.
The European Commission asked Shoot You to produce a public information video to help employers using EURES to understand forthcoming changes to the rules and regulations that govern the scheme.
They requested an animated video to do this, as a way of delivering a message that would be potentially unpalatable for the audience. No one likes to hear their business has to change to meet regulations, however animation is a useful way to minimise any negative reaction, hold the attention of an unwilling audience and keep the focus on the benefits.
A familiar environment
We decided to use a background of a desk as the basis of this animated video as an environment that would be familiar to the audience. The desk itself would be static, but characters and objects would move around the space, interacting with objects and allowing us to create a narrative.
The animation style was simple, bright and picked up on the colours used by EURES on their web portal for branding continuity.
We used a combination of drawn and photographic elements to create an environment that had a unique look to it, and allowed us to move an animated character around the space to interact with objects.
The result is light animation with a message of positive change.
