JP Morgan Brief
One of the great things about ‘talking heads’ is the ability to see colleagues and to personally hear what they have been up to. Certainly from a global perspective its interesting e.g. for Singapore to see what London is doing. The standard approach is of course the interview but on this occasion J.P. Morgan wanted to adopt a more fluid style with each statement fluidly following on for each other.
In this instance the onus was on J.P. Morgan to chivvy the relevant execs to appear in the video. In part this was because they were bashful. But more practically (for us) because there was only one day of filming allocated and our, high flying, executives couldn’t guarantee to be free at a pre arranged time.
Our solution was simply set up for the day in a quiet office within J.P. Morgan. The set was pre lit so our candidates (who had been provided with the script in advance) could simply pop in and say their line when they were free. Each exec only had to stay with us for ten minutes or so and often stayed for longer to ‘encourage’ their colleague’s performances in turn.
From a technical point of view the camera was set on a critical focal length. This gives the final shot the lovely depth of field.
Post was very straightforward in that we ‘just’ had to edit the shots in script sequence. Then grade it to the subtle ‘dark’ required. As each exec only recorded two or three takes post was completed in only a couple of of days.
J.P. Morgan were really happy with the result, which has come to be the template for several subsequent projects. The team enjoyed being in the video, their enthusiasm and professionalism was communicated along with their obvious personal warmth and humour.
