Shootyou History
The two directors (Matt and Quint) initially met at the BBC in 1998. Sharing a keen interest in the way the cost of production was falling they decided to set up Shootyou in June 2000. The BIG idea was to offer low cost video production to non traditional areas and provide final video on 'new' formats such as CD ROM.
They initially worked to produce artiste's show reels, but quickly began working with events companies filming their sales launches and conferences. The success of these videos at events caught the attention of various PR companies who began using us to film within other divisions such as 'consumer' and 'healthcare'.
Coincidentally, the area of human resources began re-examining the role of video. Traditionally it was used as part of CRM but the latest technology has ensured video can be used much more creatively with HR, usually under the banner of 'e-learning'.
Changes in the law such as DDA have also meant it's often incumbent on businesses, or authorities, to produce video e.g. for the hard of hearing, or non English speaking. This has led to a variety of work: filming in stately homes and castles to working for local police forces and prisons.
Our client base continues to expand and not just within PR. Every quarter new areas seem to open up where video can cost effectively be applied: school prospectuses, company induction, MMS messaging, company annual reports, pitch, debrief and lobby videos, shooting 'backgrounds' on TV commercials and films.as well as traditional sales promotion tools.
Shootyou now numbers a merry band of ten full time staff and 2000 sq ft of office space .but the 'BIG idea' didn't really fly. In terms of format, CD has been quickly superseded by DVD and the rise of broadband to stream or download video. Most recently 3G mobile phone technology means high quality MMS messages can be created and sent.
Once created videos often need to be updated to include the latest information. We archive all the video we've produced (offsite) so clients can feel 'future proof'. Re edits lead to regular client contact, many of whom we're now happy to include as personal friends.
