A video production horizon scan

What a lot has happened in the past ten years.

We’ve moved from video on CD Rom to streaming, full screen, on-line video. Organisations such as Google and You Tube have been born, then grown into the behemoths they are today. We’ve gone from dial up to broadband and broadband’s usage has expanded across most of the World. Video tapes have been completely superseded by DVD and now Blue Ray. Social media such as Facebook and Twitter are filled with user generated content (UGC) and are ubiquitous.

Hard to predict what the future holds for video production but here’s our horizon scan:

M-Commerce

With smart phone ownership growing at 70% a year, three-quarters of UK consumers are expected to have one in 18 months' time. Their growing prevalence is expected to boost what is dubbed "m-commerce" (mobile commerce). Experts predict more consumers will connect to the internet via mobiles than desktop PCs within five years. IMRG predicts almost 20% of the £6.4bn due to be spent online will come via phones within the year.

As 75% of smart phone ownership is by those under twenty five years old we feel embracing m-commerce is going to be vital for several market sectors none more so than the education sector.

Smart Phones

Very much related to m-commerce, we feel companies will need to develop their on-line presence via smart phones. This will mean re-designing their website to suit smart phones which will allow users to browse their products and services while on the move.

iPad, iPhone and Android Apps

To this end the development and use of apps on smart phones in general, and perhaps Apple products in particular, will be the best way to raise on line profile. Creating the right app will do wonders for promoting a company’s product and service.

The mobile commerce revolution promises an "anywhere experience" that boasts the ultimate in convenience. At the heart of all these developments lies video which has never been easier to produce or ‘broadcast’ to an audience. Great news for retailers prepared to engage with this revolution in business communication.
