Green Screen / Blue Screen / Chroma Key

Green screen is commonly used for weather forecast broadcasts, where the presenter appears to be standing in front of a large map, but in the studio it is actually a large blue or green background.

This used to be an expensive and time consuming technique for us to achieve in a pre rigged BBC studio but with the latest technology it's now possible for us to green screen pretty much anywhere on location.

This provides enormous flexibility and benefits for clients who can use green screen to introduce and display key information behind or to one side their presenter. This video can then be seamlessly embedded into a website which really brings it to life. Green screen also removes the necessity for clients to provide a decent location for an interview. We can just pop up a green screen in their office and the interviewee can be anywhere they want.
To this end green screen also allows clients to have fun by actually 'faking' the location they're in, for example reporting from a cosy TV studio in Shanghai, or cycling along the Champs-Élysées.

We've been producing green screen since 'Top Of The Pops' and would be delighted to help you take advantage of all the interesting possibilities it can provide. For inspiration and ideas please look at our green screen show reel in the player above.

Case Study

We co-ordinated green screen filming of ten BP directors internationally.
This was conducted as part of a 'horizon scan' by the company to garner thoughts
on fluctuating oil prices. The final video files were broadcast on their intranet.
