HP required a video to emphasize the durability of their RDX portable data storage cassettes. The video needed to be short for web use, yet able to make an impact there, or as part of a sales presentation.
Resistance to speed and impact on a hard surface were a perfect combination to show the ruggedness of this product.
Out of several options presented, HP chose a photogenic solution. Attaching a cassette to the back of a dragster, hurtling at full speed along a race track.
Santa Pod were pleased to assist, along with a presenter and actor cast in the lead roles. With their input laid out, we planned for recording onboard and track wide. Capturing all the action whilst bearing in mind safety needs.
As the dragster could only be raced three times, our imperative was to shoot every angle of the action on each take.
Six cameras were used, 2 x 5Ds, 2 x C300s, 2x Go Pros attached to the rear of the dragster, to capture the deployment of the (HP branded) parachute.
We positioned a Libec jib at the start of the track to cover the launch of the dragster. The car needed to be the focus of the video, along with the attached storage cassette.
The video footage was combined with After Effects to add atmosphere, final cuts made, hue and saturation adjusted, lighting flares included.
An upbeat sound track was composed and added in sequence, phased with the noise of the dragster. This really brought the production to life, a corporate sales video with a clear message.
The video was used by HP throughout their international social media and youtube channels, enthusiastically received. Knowing your company’s data is well protected has value, all the better to see this in a unique demonstration.
