EU Commission Brief
The European Commission needed to explain the latest revisions to employment regulations within the EU.
Through a series of meeting in Brussels we worked with the EU Commission to learn the challenges faced within the different departments and countries. While we couldn’t hope to address each of the specific issues we had to create a one size fits all production to highlight the topic. This would then be rolled out in 26 languages.
A voice over led animation was decided upon as the ideal medium to showcase the challenges.
Initially a voiceover script was produced. Right from the start the script had to be translatable into the 26 languages. Once the script was approved a storyboard was produced to ‘live’ underneath it. This storyboard went through eight iterations before sign off by all parties.
Production of the final animation was pretty straightforward once the storyboard had been agreed. We dabbled with ‘Harmony’ before settling on ‘After Effects’ as our preferred animation program. Sign off on the final animation was very quick, but the subsequent translation and subtitling and re timing of the animation of the final 26 videos did present some logistical challenges.
The animations were all included as part of the 2017 Europe wide employment regulation PR initiative. The animations were shown via websites and social media and formed the central plank of EU policy on the topic.
